Blows that land
Melee hits now land on short enemies, and big bosses no longer swing over your head.
- The problem: the hit check followed only the blade itself. A light attack swung at chest height sailed over spiderlings, spiders and often ghouls, and a 1.45x boss's sweep passed over a standing player.
- Measured beforehand: the dagger landed 2 of 8 swings on a spiderling and 4 of 8 on a spider; the sword landed 4 of 8 on a spiderling.
- The bosses landed 2 of 8 of their melee blows.
- Ground reach: as well as the blade, each swing now checks the column under it, down to the swinger's feet.
- The column is as wide as the blade, and spans the blade's sweep as seen from above.
- Anything the blade passes over in front of you is hit, however short.
- Aim, reach and timing still matter. Nothing behind you or beyond the swing is hit, and rolls still dodge.
- Boss steps that arrive:
- the Bone Warden and the guardians now scale the step in each blow to the gap to you, measured as the step begins;
- lunges stretch up to 3.2x and other blows up to 2x, and both shorten up close;
- so a sweep from the edge of its range, or a lunge from across the room, actually reaches you;
- the lunge's longest range dropped from 11 m to 9.5 m.
