Character creation and editing
A new character editor for making a character, or reshaping one you already have (the new Edit button on the character list). It has three pages:
- Identity: name, with a Random name button, and origin. Origin is new characters only: edits show it, locked, since it set their starting weapon and skills for life.
- Appearance:
- skin: 12 tones;
- hair: shaved, cropped, long, topknot, crest, braid or shaggy;
- hair colour: 8;
- beard: clean-shaven, stubble, moustache, short, full or long;
- eyes: dark, ember, wraith, milky or gold.
- Markings:
- warpaint pattern: none, band, tears, skull, half, runes or handprint;
- warpaint colour: 7;
- scars: none, eye, cheek, claws, or brow and lip;
- the colour of their shorts: 6.
- It stands still for the editor, bare-chested so the markings show, holding the origin's weapon.
- Drag it (or use the arrows) to turn it.
- The camera closes in on the face for Appearance and the upper body for Markings, and the mouse wheel moves it too.
- Editing keeps the character's skills, gear, gold and stash; only the name and looks change.
- Painted on: every body vertex now carries its rest-pose position, so the skin shader paints the skin tone, shorts, stubble, brows (in the hair colour), the warpaint patterns, the scars and the eyes exactly where they belong, however the body moves. The glowing eyes really glow.
- Grown: hair and beards are grown on the head's own surface: a shell that hugs the skull or jaw, plus a curtain of long hair, a bun, a crest of blades or a braid. They ride on the head joint, so first person hides them with the head.
- Under helmets: knots and crests tuck away under a helm.
- Networking: the looks still travel to other players as one int. Old characters keep their looks, and their old warpaint becomes the band.
- Assets: new. The player body was rebuilt with the rest positions and a skin/cloth mask.
- New: (39 checks) covers:
- packed looks and old codes;
- the skin shader and the hair and beard geometry on the body;
- topknots under helms;
- making and editing characters, active and not;
- the editor's pages, steppers, names, origin lock and figure;
- the fresh-install flow.
- New screenshot mode:
--shots=looks.--shots=charactersnow covers the editor's pages, editing and the first launch.
